Mecaparts allows you to create multiple category trees tailored to different vehicle groups such as Passenger Cars, Motorcycles, Heavy-Duty Vehicles, or even for Equipment and Tools, giving you full flexibility to organize your catalog based on your specific needs.
Why create categories?
In TecDoc, each product typically belongs to multiple TecDoc categories, which can make managing your catalog complex and overwhelming. Mecaparts solves this challenge by giving you the power to group multiple TecDoc categories into a single custom category that matches your store’s structure and style.
This means that products in TecDoc categories will automatically be assigned to your newly created category—no extra effort required!
Create a category in 3 steps
When creating a category, follow these simple steps:
1. Name your category
Start by giving your category a clear and descriptive name. This will help your customers easily navigate and find the products they’re looking for.
You cannot use the same category name more than once, even at different levels. Each category must have a unique name to avoid conflicts.
2. Choose its location
When creating a category, it’s crucial to define its location in your catalog. Mecaparts provides an intuitive dropdown selector that lets you choose the category’s location:
/— This is the root category. If you select/, your category will be at the top level./Brake— This will make your new category a subcategory ofBrake./Brake/Disc Brake— This will create a sub-subcategory underDisc Brake.
If you create a category called Brake Pads and select /Brake as its location, Brake Pads will appear as a subcategory under Brake.
This flexible system enables you to build a structured, multi-level catalog that meets the needs of even the most complex product catalogs.
3. Select TecDoc categories to group
To populate your new category, simply search for relevant TecDoc categories using the built-in keyword search field. Once you’ve selected the appropriate TecDoc categories, Mecaparts will automatically group and assign all matching products to your new category.
If you create a custom category called Brake Parts and group multiple TecDoc categories like Brake Discs, Brake Pads, and Brake Calipers, Mecaparts will ensure that all relevant products appear in Brake Parts—without any manual intervention.
A complete example
If you create a new category while you already have existing products, they will be automatically assigned to this new category if they belong to the grouped TecDoc categories.
